ANPP CAN visits Taakra art and crafts academy



The Coordinator of the African Network for the Prevention and Protection against child abuse and neglect
ANPP CAN)   Abuja Chapter, Imaobong Ladipo Sanusi visits Taakra Academy .
 As a Psychologist and the initiator of early impact for the adolescent and clinician at the child Justice clinic (CJC) Imaobong along with (Wotclef ) join efforts in evaluating the progress of the young women and men being trained @ Taakra  arts and Craft academy , ensuring their smooth transition  back into society.

TAAKRA ART AND CRAFTS IN COLABORATION WITH WOTCLEF


The Women trafficking and child labor eradication foundation (WOTCLEF) in conjunction with Taakra Art and krafts Academy are united in their committed to rebuilding lives.

WOTCLEF a non-governmental organization was initiated and founded by Her Excellency, Chief (Mrs.) Amina Titi Atiku Abubarkar , wife of the Vice- President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1999, and which is committed to building an international coalition that restores human dignity through empowerment, education, advocacy.

WOTCLEF is dedicated to the eradication of human trafficking in persons, child labor and violent abuses of the rights of women in society, as well as HIV/AIDS.

With similar goals, Mrs. Diane Oputa the founder of Taakra Arts and Kraft Academy partnered with WOTCLEF in a skill acquisition training program which she shares her crafting techniques to young ladies, teaching projects and skills that will enable them successfully reintegrate back into the society.

HATS OFF TO BUNMI ADEYEMI OF REVIEW MILLINERS


The Name Bunmi Adeyemi of Review Milliners  is no stranger to the Hat making world in Lagos Nigeria.
Trained by Bimby Lads one of the for most recognized couture Millenary hat designers in Nigeria.
She began as a sales representative  for Bimby Lads and soon realized she had a flair for hat designing and never looked back. Her hats are made with Sinemay, straw, paper straw and other raw materials.

Today Bunmi Adeyemi is as well giving back her community through vocational training, working with various NGO's and school such as Taakra Arts and Crafts Academy.
Her Advise to upcoming hat makers is to remain focus and passionate about their work, the sky is the limit.

INSPIRE ACADEMY AND TAAKRA AFTER SCHOOL ARTS AND CRAFT PROGRAM






The After school arts and craft classes took off without a hitch @ Inspire Academy Abuja.
It was amusing to hear the children address me Madam Taakra ,
as I've been call everything from Lady D to Area Mama. 

Preparing projects appropriate  for kids under 10 years old was our goal while also keeping them engaged  through the entire project.
Inspire Academy students were up to the task, keeping the instructors on there toes.
like  inquisitive minds, they asked intelligent questions and showed zeal and  enthusiasm .

Knitt And Crochet with Phil Roberts


Growing up in Nigeria Phil Roberts began knitting and crocheting in 1981 and never stopped.

With a growing passion and a knitting machine she began creating exquisite designs such as table cloths, hat and scarves sets, handbags, shawls and much more.

Over the last 3 decades, Phil Roberts focused on capturing the quintessence of Stoff, Farbe und Schnitt (fabric, color and cut) and communicating it to the world through her designs
 working mainly with natural fabrics like cotton, linen, silk and merino.

Her hand made knit wears are now being sold in exclusive stores in Germany where she also shares her expertise through works shops seminars  teaching others the art of knitting and crocheting.

At Taakra we commend Phil Roberts for her passion in her craft and her willingness to share with her community her God given talent.

Taakra Arts & Crafts in collaboration with NYSC


I would like to begin by apologizing for the break in transmission on Taakra’s blog. It was due to change in administration.

Now that were back on track, we will be keeping you posted on the monthly activities at Taakra Arts & Craft Academy.

August 15th 2014 commenced the practical training for Batch B NYSC Corps.  
For the last 3 years Taakra Arts & Craft Academy participated as resource persons @ Kubwa center in the area of Crafts. 

Corpers were taught how to make Hair Fascinators, decorative hand fans, Cultural stationary books, wire work (fun rings) and shoe making with Ankara fabric.

A special subsidized package is offered to all Youth Corpers interested in Joining Taakra Arts & Crafts Academy after camp.

TAAKRA BAAZAR!!!!

Taakra Academy, School of Art and Crafts pulls off a successful Bazaar/ exhibition/ workshop  @ the Justice Oputa Foundation building in Gwarimpa , Abuja. 
The students displayed Beautiful necklace sets and unique Ankara hand bags, also on display were hand made fans,ankara shoes,hair fasinators, Christmas ornament and lot more .
Due to popular demand from Friends and participants Taakra will holding their arts and crafts Bazaar every Saturday up until the Xmas holiday to enable people to purchase there items.
This avenue has enabled our students to showcase their works to the public and prove to them that having a skill is the next step to self empowerment. 

 Join us every Saturday @ justice oputa foundation building 6th Ave Galadima Gwarimpa Abuja.
Time: 12 noon-pm to 5 pm, come and appreciate the worlds of Art & Crafts!!!!!!
